Christopher Banks

Senior Communications Officer

Christopher is an award-winning filmmaker, journalist and musician. In addition to working at the Mental Health Foundation, he has worked in public relations for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and the Access To Medicines Coalition.

Christopher writes for the gay national newspaper Express, has written for GayNZ.com, London's Gay Times magazine and Healthwise, and reported for TV2’s Queer Nation. He is a founding trustee of Number 8 Films, which produced the short films Teddy, Communication and The Colonel’s Outing. In the late 1990s, Christopher wrote and produced a string of number one hits for his pop group, Deep Obsession.

He is also the author of the daily blog Bipolar Bear, which details his personal experience of bipolar disorder.

Christopher is also very fond of Orson Welles, Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick, Cluedo, and the TV series Are You Being Served?. He is married to Dean, his partner of 16 years.
